War Time Cake Recipe

This recipe was a first for me. I have never made a cake without mixing in the bowl.

This cake is entirely made in the baking pan.

I was telling my dad about the recipe and he told me that his mother used to make cake this way, vinegar and all.

So the vinegar was another first for me. I have never used vinegar in a cake before. I tasted the batter – who doesn’t want to lick the spoon! The vinegar makes the batter taste horrible! I was very nervous about how the cake was going to turn out after tasting the batter!

The vinegar actually helps to enhance the flavor of the chocolate.

The cake was very moist when it was done cooking. It was a little difficult to get out of the pan. Since the pan wasn’t greased, that would explain it. I don’t think you could grease the pan since you mix everything in it. So just be prepared for some sticking!

The cake is very cook. I topped it with powdered sugar. You could ice it, but it really didn’t need icing.

WACKY CAKE

1 ½ Cups Flour

1 Cup Sugar

3 Tablespoons Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

1 Teaspoon Baking Soda

1 Teaspoon Baking Powder

1 Teaspoon Salt

5 Tablespoons Melted Butter

1 Teaspoon Vanilla

1 Teaspoon Cider Vinegar

1 Cup Warm Water

In an ungreased 8x8 pan combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Make three holes in the mixture, pour melted butter into one, vanilla into second, and vinegar into third. Add warm water and mix until well blended. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
