Very Good But Not Spicy

I think there is a big difference between people and how they consider food spicy. This is not at all spicy to me, but perhaps to some, sausage would be spicy?

The dish is very simple and easy. Great for a quick weeknight dinner!

I used Jimmy Dean bulk sausage. I find this sausage breaks up well and crumbles nicely.

I added salt to the water when I cooked the macaroni noodles. I was worried that the dish would be bland as there wasn’t any other salt called for in the recipe.

The celery remains somewhat crisp, which adds a nice texture to the dish. Everything else is soft, so this is needed.

Overall this is more a chili mac than a mac and cheese. Layering it with the cheese is a wonderful idea. You get a bite of the cheese when eating.

I used Swiss cheese slices. They added a bit of the saltiness the recipe was missing. Honestly I am not sure I would have like it as much with mozzarella.

The dish is classic comfort food. My family ate it up!

SPICY MACARONI CASSEROLE

1 Pound Ground Pork Sausage

½ Cup Chopped Onion

¾ Cup Chopped Celery

16 Ounces Tomato Sauce

½ Teaspoon Basil

8 Ounces Macaroni Noodles, cooked

8 Ounces Sliced Mozzarella or Swiss Cheese

Brown sausage. Add onion and celery, cook lightly. Add sauce, basil and macaroni. Place half the mixture into a 2 quart casserole. Cover with half the cheese. Repeat. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.
