Umm. . . No Thank You

This recipe would have worked better with ground ham. I had trouble getting the finely diced ham when forming the balls.

I even ran everything through my Cuisinart to get it to dice up more. Still wouldn’t stay together.

So serving them was a bit of a mess. I did my best, but the balls just wouldn’t form.

The sauce was nice, very good flavor. Glazing the balls was difficult, again because the balls were falling apart.

Unfortunately, the balls just didn’t taste all that good. The ingredients didn’t seem to work with each other.

Our dog really liked them though . . . .

HAM AND WALNUT APPETIZERS

½ Pound Cooked Ham, Ground or Chopped

½ Cup Walnuts, Ground or Chopped

½ Cup Soft Bread Crumbs

1 Egg, Slightly Beaten

1/8 Teaspoon Ground Pepper

¼ Teaspoon Ground Allspice

Dash Ground Cloves

2 Tablespoons Butter

3 Tablespoons Red Currant Jelly

1 Tablespoon Dijon Mustard

2 Tablespoons Madeira or Sherry

1 Tablespoon Vinegar

2 Tablespoons Walnut Pieces

Combine ham, walnuts, bread crumbs, egg, pepper, allspice, and cloves. Blend well. Shape into balls. Melt butter in a 13x9 baking dish. Roll ham balls in butter to coat. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 10 minutes. Heat jelly, mustard, wine and vinegar in a small skillet. Stir until jelly is melted. Add ham balls until glazed – about 5 minutes. Serve hot garnished with walnut pieces.
