This Was A Hot Mess!

I will start by saying that it did taste good, so there’s that.

The stuffing was easy to put together. I used two Granny Smith apples and two Red Delicious. This gave a nice combination of tart and sweet.

The wheat germ was unrecognizable when combined with the other ingredients. So there is a bit of healthy, but you don’t really taste it.

I put foil down on my board before flattening the pork. I’m not sure if this was a good idea or not. I thought it would help with the rolling up process, but it might have made it worse. Maybe plastic wrap would have worked better. . . .

Rolling the sausage was the worse part. The sausage stuck to the foil. Even when I got it released from the foil, it fell apart during the rolling.

The sausage roll did taste great. It was just a mess! Once it was cooked, it was also very difficult to get out of the pan in one piece. So it didn’t look great plated.

So, if you are up for some frustrating work, it is actually worth it taste wise!

APPLE STUFFED SAUSAGE ROLL

2 Pounds Pork Sausage

2 Cups Finely Chopped Apples

1/3 Cup Finely Chopped Onions

1 Cup Soft Bread Crumbs

1 Cup Wheat Germ

2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar

Pat sausage into an oblong about ½ inch thick. Combine remaining ingredients, mixing well. Spread apple mixture onto sausage and roll up like a jelly roll. Bake in a shallow pan in a 350 degree oven for 1 hour.
