The Perfect Tea Time Treat

I know that not everyone is a fan of scones. My husband can’t stand them. I am really not sure why. I think they are perfect!

I often enjoy a scone for breakfast. But I have also been known to have one in the afternoon with a nice hot tea.

This recipe is a great starting point for whatever scone you want to make.

You could, of course, make them as is. They would be perfectly lovely.

Today, I added a few fresh blueberries to the batter right before patting it out.

I love a pop of fruit with my scone.

If you were to make them plain, I would highly recommend some Devonshire Cream to go with. Even with the blueberries, the cream would be great.

You can also add a nice jam smear to the scone to give it the fruit flavor.

Honestly, they are so easy to make! They take no time at all to whip up, and with only 15 minutes for baking, you can whip them up in a jiffy whenever you are in need of a sweet bread treat!

SCONES

1 3/4 Cups Sifted All Purpose Flour

2 1/4 Teaspoons Baking Powder

1 Tablespoon Sugar

1/2 Teaspoon Salt

1/4 Cup Cold Butter

2 Eggs

1/3 Cup Cream

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Sift together flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. Cut butter into flour. Beat eggs, reserve 2 teaspoons in a separate bowl. Beat cream into eggs. Make a well in the dry ingredients and add the cream mixture. Combine with as few strokes as possible. Place on a lightly floured board and pat into a 3/4 inch thick circle. Cut with a knife into diamond or triangle shapes. Brush with reserved egg and sprinkle with sugar. Bake 15 minutes.
