These feel like cheating a bit. Using a box mix – I mean, why not just measure out ingredients.
So this box is basically measured out flour, baking soda and salt. So I guess it’s not really cheating. . .
The breadsticks came out nice, the taste was good.
They did not save well though. I put the leftovers in a ziplock after dinner. The next day, despite being sealed, they were a bit hard. So if you make them – eat them all the same night!
HERBED BREAD STICKS
1 Package Hot Roll Mix
1/2 Cup Warm Water
1 Egg
1/2 Cup Sour Cream
1 Teaspoon Fennel or Caraway Seed
½ Teaspoon Italian Seasoning
Coarse Salt
Sprinkle yeast from hot roll mix over warm water in a large bowl; stir to dissolve. Mix in egg, sour cream, seeds, Italian seasoning and flour packet from mix.
Place dough in a greased bowl, turning once to coat all sides. Cover and let rise in a warm place until light and doubled, about 1 hour.
Divide dough into quarters and further divide each fourth into 12 small pieces.
Roll each piece into a 12 inch long stick. Twist and place on a lightly greased baking sheet.
Allow to rise again until almost doubled, about 20 minutes.
Brush with cold water and then sprinkle with coarse salt.
Bake in a 400 degree oven for 10 to 12 minutes.
