Quick and Flaky Crust

I don’t know why more people don’t make their own pie crusts anymore. It really isn’t that hard.

There are just four ingredients in this crust, so it goes together very quickly.

The dough is flaky even after mixing, so you do have to press it together to roll it out.

Rolling was very simple. It did not stick at all.

Admittedly I think I rolled my dough a bit on the thick side. Which is okay for me as I like the crust – so long as it tastes good!

The recipe makes enough for two crusts if rolled thin.

Once baked the crust is super flaky. It has a nice flavor.

I used this recipe to make my Pumpkin Pie. It worked wonderfully!

PLAIN PASTRY

2 Cups Sifted Flour

¾ Teaspoon Salt

2/3 Cup Shortening

4 to 6 Tablespoons Cold Water

Sift flour and salt together into a mixing bowl. Cut in shortening. Add water a small amount at a time to achieve desired consistency. Divide dough into 2 pieces and roll on a lightly floured surface to the desired size. Cook according to pie recipe instructions.
