No Rise Biscuits . . .

So these biscuits tasted great, but they didn’t rise at all.

They were very quick and easy to put together. The shortening blends in well.

I didn’t have any buttermilk and I couldn’t find any at the grocery store when I went either. Thankfully it is very easy to make buttermilk.

You take the measurement of 1 cup milk and subtract 1 tablespoon. Then you add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. Stir it a little and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Then you have buttermilk!

The biscuits came out crispy on the outside and soft on the inside – just like they should be.

They just didn’t rise. . .

SAGE BISCUITS

2 Cups All Purpose Flour

½ Teaspoon Salt

1 Teaspoon Baking Powder

½ Teaspoon Baking Soda

½ Teaspoon Sage

3 Tablespoons Shortening

¾ Cup Buttermilk

Sift and measure flour, then add salt, baking powder, and baking soda; sift together/ Add sage. Cut in shortening then add buttermilk. Add an additional ¼ cup buttermilk if the mixture is too dry. Knead lightly. Roll to 3/8 inch thick. Cut with a biscuit cutter and place on baking sheet. Bake at 475 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.
