I can’t help but think of Hamburger Helper when I think about this dish.
Hamburger Helper was something that was created to make dinner easier. One pan cooking with a meat and pasta covered in sauce.
That is basically what this recipe is - meat, pasta and sauce.
Unlike Hamburger Helper, this recipe also provides a small amount of vegetable.
Okay, so the vegetable is onion and pepper. Oh, and tomatoes. But at least it is something.
I actually liked that it was ground pork instead of hamburger. Of course, you could use hamburger and get a similar result.
The macaroni cooks great in the sauce. It definitely saves time not having to boil it separately.
The sour cream thickens the sauce and gives it a wonderful creaminess.
The recipe is simple, it takes very little time, and has great flavor.
SKILLET SUPPER
1 Pound Bulk Sausage
1 Onion, Chopped
1 Green Pepper, Chopped
1 Pound Can Tomatoes
1/2 Cup Water
2 Cups Uncooked Elbow Macaroni
1 Teaspoon Salt
2 Tablespoons Sugar
2 Teaspoons Chili Powder
2 Cups Sour Cream
Brown sausage in a heavy skillet. Pour off fat as it collects. Stir in remaining ingredients, except sour cream. Bring to a boil. Cover and then simmer, stirring often, until macaroni is tender, about 20 to 25 minutes. Blend in sour cream. Reheat to just boiling.
