I am not really sure how to describe this dish. It tastes weird. At the same time as it is refreshing, it is also tart and vinegary.
I was so excited when I found the apple flavored gelatin. This is not something on most store shelves.
I was shopping in a Portuguese market with a friend, and there it was on the shelf!
The apple and vinegar combine to create one of the strange tastes of the dish. It is sweet, yet tart. But not in a good way.
The mayonnaise and sour cream blend together to become very creamy. The cucumber is light and refreshing.
But when you combine the two mixtures, it is just strange.
I was planning on serving this as a refreshing side dish to the fried food I made. We ended up not eating this at all. We just couldn’t stomach it.
CUCUMBER CREAM SALAD
1 Package Apple Flavored Gelatin
1 Teaspoon Salt
1 Cup Hot Water
2 Tablespoons Vinegar
1 Teaspoon Grated Onion
1 Cup Sour Cream
1/4 Cup Mayonnaise
1 Cup Chopped Cucumbers
Dissolve gelatin and salt in hot water. Add vinegar and onion. Refrigerate until syrupy. Beat sour cream, mayonnaise and cucumbers into gelatin. Pour into molds. Refrigerate until firm.
