I love pancakes. They are really one of my favorite foods. I think I could happily eat them every day.
But not these pancakes.
They are very, very wheaty. I mean, they taste a lot like wheat.
The batter is also super thick. So the end result pancake is super thick.
This means you have to cook them a long time. This makes it very easy to burn them.
I did indeed burn my first batch. I changed pans before cooking the second batch. They cooked a little better, but not great.
If you like wheat pancakes, you will probably like these, but they were certainly not my favorite.
WHOLE WHEAT BUTTERMILK PANCAKES
1 Egg
1 1/4 Cups Buttermilk
1/2 Teaspoon Baking Soda
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1 1/4 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
1 Teaspoon Honey
2 Tablespoons Shortening
1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
Beat egg. Add buttermilk, baking soda, and salt. Blend in remaining ingredients. Drop by spoonfuls onto a hot, greased, skillet. Cook on both sides until golden.
