Interesting and Flavorful Beans!

This is a great and different way to serve green beans!

I serve a lot of green beans. My husband grows them in his garden, so we usually have an abundance of them. Sautéed or steamed green beans can get a little boring.

This recipe adds some interesting flavor to the beans.

The sauce you make from the soy sauce, vinegar and relish is sweet and tangy. Adding the cornstarch beefs up the sauce so that it sticks nicely to the beans.

I cooked the beans as the recipe called for. You could easily adjust the time depending on how firm you like your finished beans.

Really good side dish!

SWEET SOUR GREEN BEANS

1 Pound Green Beans

2 Tablespoons Butter or Bacon Fat

1 Cup Boiling Water

½ Teaspoon Salt

1 Teaspoon Cornstarch

3 Tablespoons Sugar

3 Tablespoons Vinegar

1 Tablespoon Soy Sauce

¼ Cup Cold Water

3 Tablespoons Pickle Relish

Prepare, then cut, beans into 1” lengths. Place in a large skillet with a cover. Add butter, boiling water and salt. Heat quickly, covered until beans steam. Turn down heat and cook 15 minutes. Mix cornstarch with remaining ingredients. Pour over beans, cook until slightly thickened.
