This recipe has been on my “Things To Make” board for a while. It just sounded strange - I mean, meat in bread . . .
I am glad I finally made it though!
The bread itself is very hearty so stands up well. I served it with the Cabbage and Rice Soup and it was thick enough to dip.
The diced ham gives a really interesting meaty flavor to the bread. It was a nice addition to a vegetarian dinner.
The best part of the bread is the melted cheese and sesame seed top. Pouring the butter over before baking it gives the bread a lovely crust of cheese and sesame seeds.
Really a great side dish bread!
SAVORY CASSEROLE BREAD
2/3 Cup Chopped Green Onions
3 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil
2 Cups Bisquick
1 Cup Chopped Cooked Ham
2 Eggs, Slightly Beaten
2/3 Cup Milk
½ Teaspoon Prepared Mustard
1 ½ Cups Grated Cheddar Cheese
2 Tablespoons Sesame Seeds
3 Tablespoons Butter
Sauté onion in 1 tablespoon oil for 2 minutes. Combine bisquick and ham. Mix remaining oil, eggs, milk, mustard, onion and half cheddar. Add to ham mixture, stir until well mixed. Spread in a grease round 10 inch casserole. Sprinkle with remaining cheese and sesame seeds. Pour melted butter over the top. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
