Delicious Savory Bread

My husband’s go workers absolutely love that I have started this recipe journey. Every week they get some sort of fresh baked good.

This is the recipe they received this week. And they ate it up!

The bread is a hearty bread, perfect for sopping up the juices of whatever entree you are serving. I served it with the Simple Chili and Beans. It was a lovely accompaniment to the dish.

The apple gives the bread a small amount of sweetness and tartness. Shredding the apples gives the bread that apple flavor through without big chunks of apple. If the apple was diced, I don’t think it would work quite as well.

The cheese shows up throughout the bread as well. Each bite has a bit of sweetness, and a bit of the sharpness from the Cheddar.

I kind of wish I had not sent the majority of the bread to my husband’s work. I would have liked to eat more of it!

APPLE CHEESE BREAD

4 Cups Sifted Flour

3 Teaspoons Baking Powder

1 Teaspoon Baking Sida

2 Teaspoons Salt

1 Cup Butter, Softened

1 1/2 Cups Sugar

4 Eggs

2 Large Tart Apples, Pared, Scored, and Shredded

1 Cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese

Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt onto waxed paper. Beat butter, sugar and eggs in a large bowl until fluffy. Stir in shredded apples, then dry ingredients. Stir in cheese. Divide evenly into two well greased loaf pans. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 50 minutes. Cool 5 minutes in the pan, then on wire racks.
