Cookbook Extravaganza!

It is Spring Break here in Virginia. So what to do with a fourteen year old girl at home for a week? With the stupid pandemic we didn’t feel like traveling would be a good idea this year, so we had to find things to do close to home.

My daughter is a collector of generation one My Little Pony toys. You know, the ones that came out in the early 80’s. I remember them well as I was around ten when they came out. Well apparently there is a market for them and they are considered collectable now.

So we planned an antique store trip. Yes, you can buy ponies at antique stores – I feel old. We hit several antique malls in the Richmond area. It’s about a two hour drive, so not to far that we can’t go and return in the same day.

She did find some ponies, not generation one unfortunately, but she was happy.

I, however, hit the motherload! Thirty new mini cookbooks from the fifties! They all have a minimum of 250 recipes in them. They are also specific subjects – poultry, meat, salad, refrigerator desserts, etc.

One of the books was produced by Phillip Morris – Benson and Hedges. That’s right – in the Mid-Century cookbooks from cigarette companies were a thing. Who knew?

I am really looking forward to spending some time going through the books to see what goodies they contain! I also picked up to McCalls magazines from 1953 - that adds are fabulous!

I’ll keep you posted!
