Classic Cookie With A Twist

I Always make sugar cookies round the holidays. They are a classic, and for a reason. They are simple, but always delicious.

This recipe is a little different than the traditional sugar cookie recipe. It has sour cream!

I don’t think I have ever made a sugar cookie with sour cream in it before. It makes the cookie very moist and creamy.

That creamy texture really goes great with the basic sugar cookie. They don’t really even need icing.

And I did not ice these cookies. I used colored sugar over the top. So they looked very festive.

I really enjoyed these cookies. I might have to make this my go to recipe from now on.

SUGAR COOKIES

1 Cup Shortening

1 Cup Sugar

1 Cup Sour Cream

3 Egg Yolks, Beaten

1 Teaspoon Vanilla

3 Cups Sifted Flour

1 Teaspoon Salt

1 Teaspoon Baking Powder

1/2 Teaspoon Baking Soda

Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly. Add sour cream, egg yolks and vanilla. Sift together dry ingredients. Add to creamed mixture and blend well. Chill several hours. Shape into balls using a small portion of dough, keeping remaining dough chilled. Roll 1/8 inch thick on a lightly floured board. Cut with 2 1/2 inch round cutter. Sprinkle with sugar on greased baking sheets. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 15 minutes.
