A Master Recipe

A Master Recipe is a base recipe that can be used to create a multitude of other dishes. This one is for coffee cakes.



The mix is easy to put together, just a few simple steps.



It keeps well, up to six weeks!


The benefit of this master recipe is that you can put together a coffee cake in a manner of minutes.



This is so very helpful when you are super busy, but still want something special to serve your family.



It is also helpful when you have surprise company! Maybe you get a late call that someone will be stopping by – in under 40 minutes you can have a homemade treat on the table!



I will be trying several different variations of coffee cake with this mix – make sure to check back for more recipes!



COFFEE CAKE MIX

8 Cups Sifted Flour

4 Tablespoons Baking Powder

1 Tablespoon Salt

2 Teaspoons Cream of Tartar

2 Cups Shortening


Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and cream of tartar into a large bowl. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender or electric mixer. The mixture should be dry and crumbly, like coarse cornmeal. Store in a tightly covered container at room temperature or in refrigerator. Will keep 4 to 6 weeks.
