A British Classic!

I have been to England a few times in my life. I have always heard the stories and cliché’s about British food being horrible. It really isn’t! There are a lot of comfort food elements to it.

I love toad in a hole. I have had it in England many times, but have never tried to make it myself.

To start, my sausages were a bit on the large side. I would have preferred smaller ones, like what you find on the other side of the Atlantic. Unfortunately, I could not find anything close in my local grocery stores. I am sure I could have gone to a butcher and found exactly what I was looking for, but who has the time for that!

I did not have enough Yorkshire Pudding for the size pan I used, so the sausages were just resting on top of the pudding instead of nestled in it. So this changed the look of the dish a bit, but not the taste.

It turned out great! I love the taste of the savory sausage, the sweet apples and the pudding all together. A great dish!

TOAD IN A HOLE

1 Recipe Yorkshire Pudding

12 Pork or Beef Sausages

5 Tablespoons Butter

1 Recipe Honey Apple

Pan broil the sausages for 8 to 10 minutes. Melt butter in oven safe pan. Pour pudding mixture over melted butter. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 20 minutes. Arrange sausages on top of batter. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake 10 to 15 minutes longer, until pudding is golden. Serve topped with honey apples.
